What is telehealth?

Telehealth, or telemedicine, uses modern technology such as tablets, smartphones, computers, and the internet to conduct medical exams, diagnose illness, and write prescriptions.  

Telehealth services first came onto the scene in the 1950s. However, they were originally used to serve people in rural areas who lived far away from the nearest clinic or hospital. Thanks to advances in science, and the development of video conferencing technology, telehealth now benefits people everywhere. 

What conditions can telehealth treat?

Telehealth is incredibly versatile. Dr. Kermani regularly uses telehealth to diagnose and make treatment recommendations for a variety of ailments, including: 

• Allergies
• Arthritis
• Asthma
• Colds
• Flu
• Infections
• Insect bites
• Gastrointestinal issues 

Dr. Kermani also uses telehealth to monitor patients following surgery, to conduct routine exams, and to prescribe and/or refill medications as necessary. 

What are the benefits of telehealth?

Telehealth presents an array of benefits. For one, it allows you to speak with a medical professional from the comfort of your own home.  

This means you don’t have to worry about sitting in traffic or exposure to others who might be contagious. This is especially beneficial for elderly patients and individuals with compromised immune systems.  

Telehealth also gives you the opportunity to speak with medical professionals you might not have the opportunity to otherwise. If needed, Dr. Kermani can refer you to a specialist.

If you have children at home, telehealth allows you to care for them without hiring a babysitter. If you work a busy schedule and can’t take time off, telehealth enables you to make an appointment with Dr. Kermani on your lunch break or when your workday allows.

What happens during a telehealth appointment?

Once you log into the telehealth platform, you can see and speak to Dr. Kermani. He asks you to describe the symptoms you’re experiencing and if you have any concerns.

After gathering the necessary information, Dr. Kermani develops a custom treatment plan that aligns with your individual needs. Or, if it’s just a checkup, he can refill a prescription, schedule vaccines, or provide you with general health guidance.

Can new patients participate in telehealth?

Dr. Kermani lets all of his patients participate in telehealth services. If you’ve recently moved to the area and want to establish care, you can fill out all of your information, including patient registration online; there’s no printing or faxing involved.

Additionally, the new patient system is incredibly convenient. You don’t have to create a username or password. Simply fill out the necessary information and Dr. Kermani’s team takes care of the rest.
